Into the Middle of Things (a good place to start in most scenes) is a journal about writing, and my writing process. I say “my” but I’ve stolen this process from as many sources as possible. I recommend you do the same.

I had thought about calling this “The Writer’s But(t)” because the thing you need most to write is a butt. In a chair, couch, wherever, even helping to support your body at a standing desk. All you need to do is keep it there and write — for extended periods of time, and often. The more you do this, the better (for your writing anyway). The other “but” is also important because you’ll find a lot of them — tons — in great stories.

In any case — welcome! Like my writing, this is a work in progress.

For more on “buts.” Check out this two minute 14 second video featuring the creators of South Park (Matt Stone & Trey Parker). Watch it. And follow their advice, you’ll be halfway there. At least that’s what I’ve been telling myself:

Writing Advice from Matt Stone & Trey Parker

Final note. I am not an expert. I anticipate that this will be somewhat journal like. What I’m doing writing-wise, and the problems I’m trying to tackle. Writing sometimes has the illusion of being easy, but the fact is there are a lot of things to keep track of. I think this blog will be another way for me to try to keep track.
